In short
First Strides keeps your data on your iPhone. There is no account, we run no servers that receive your data, and there is no advertising, analytics or tracking. The only time anything leaves your iPhone is when you ask the AI coach for something, after you have given your explicit consent: a summary of your data then goes straight from your iPhone to Anthropic, using your own key.
Who we are
First Strides is developed by Paolo Giulio Gazzano (Nathco). You can contact us at support@nathco.app.
What the app stores
The information you enter (weight and body composition, meals, shopping list, preferences, the coach's notes about you such as tastes, allergies and routine) and the plans the app creates for you. It is kept in the app's private storage on your iPhone. We have no access to it.
Your personal Claude key is stored only in your iPhone's Keychain.
The AI coach and Anthropic
The coach, the plan generator and the video search use Claude, an AI service by Anthropic. You provide your own Anthropic API key. The app uses it only after you give your explicit consent, and only when you make a request: a chat message, a weekly plan, a meal plan or a video search.
With each request the app sends Anthropic a summary of your data together with your message: your name, sex, age, height and goal; weight and body composition; logged meals and meal plan; steps, sleep, resting heart rate and workouts (including data from Apple Health, if you allowed it); and the coach's notes about you (preferences, allergies, health notes you wrote). The request goes directly from your iPhone to Anthropic, with your key, and does not pass through any server of ours. Anthropic handles it under its own terms and privacy policy, which are separate from this one.
You can withdraw your consent at any time in the app's settings, and you can delete your key. The cost of using the AI is charged by Anthropic to your own account with them; we receive no payment and no usage information.
Apple Health
Access to Apple Health is optional and you control it in iPhone Settings › Health. The app can read steps, calories, heart rate, sleep, weight and workouts to show your progress, and can write the weight, body fat and lean mass that you enter by hand. Health data are never sold or shared for advertising. They stay on your iPhone, except for what is included in the summary sent to Anthropic when you use the coach, as described above.
Exercise videos
Exercise videos are found with the video search and play from YouTube in a window inside the app. When you open a video, your iPhone connects to YouTube and Google, which handle that connection under their own terms and privacy policies. The window is set not to keep cookies or website data between visits, and it only opens YouTube and Google addresses.
Reminders
Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your iPhone: there is no push server and nothing leaves your device. iOS asks for your permission, and you can turn them off at any time in iOS Settings.
Sharing with your partner
If you choose to send your plans to another person, the app creates a file (meal plan, shopping list, workout sessions and, if you choose, the coach's notes) that you share yourself, for example with Messages or AirDrop. We do not see it.
Subscription
First Strides Plus is an annual subscription (€9.99 per year after a 7-day free trial; the price may vary by country) handled by Apple through the App Store. Apple processes the payment and tells the app only whether your subscription is active. We receive no payment details, no name and no e-mail address, and there are no accounts. You can manage or cancel it in Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
Network and third parties
First Strides contains no third-party code: no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or other SDKs. The only network connections are with Anthropic (the AI features, with your own key, as described above), with YouTube and Google (to play exercise videos) and with Apple's App Store (the subscription). We receive no data from any of them. Links you choose to tap (this website, the support e-mail, the Anthropic console) open in Safari or Mail.
Backups and device transfers
iOS may include the app's data in backups of your iPhone (iCloud or a computer) if you have them turned on, and may move it to a new iPhone when you set it up from a backup or transfer. Those backups are managed by Apple under your settings and Apple's terms; we have no access to them, and we cannot guarantee that your data can be recovered in every circumstance.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your iPhone until you delete it in the app or delete the app (which removes all its data from the device). You can withdraw your consent to the AI coach and delete your key in the app at any time; to delete the key itself or your account with Anthropic, use the Anthropic console. How Anthropic keeps requests is governed by Anthropic's own policies. Weight, body fat and lean mass saved to Apple Health stay in the Health app until you delete them there. Existing backups may keep older copies until they are replaced.
Adults only
First Strides is intended for adults (18 or older) and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone.
Medical notice
First Strides gives general fitness and nutrition guidance and is not a medical service. Talk to your doctor before starting a new exercise or diet program.
Your rights
Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing on our side to access, correct, export or delete. For data held by Anthropic in connection with your own key and account, contact Anthropic. For any question about privacy, write to support@nathco.app.
